Cancer Season: Through the Lens of Human Design

Cancer Season in the northern hemisphere begins each year with the Summer Solstice. As the sun lights up the longest day of the year, it does it while transiting Gate 15, the Gate of Extremes. How fitting that the extremely long day and extremely short night would coincide with this energy.

Gate 15 is a Love Gate located in the G Center (aka Identity Center). It is the love of humanity. A love that is expansive in it’s acceptance of the full range of humanness. 15 is a magnetic energy tied to our direction and closely connected to our creative life force energy. It can easily pull others into it’s particular rhythm and flow. This year the Sun will be joined in Gate 15 by Jupiter, making June 21st to 24th likely to bring in some extra adaptability and exciting opportunities taking you in new directions.

While in Cancer, the sun makes it’s way through the Gates of Inaction (52), The Provocateur (39), Beginnings (53), Detail (62) and the first half of Stimulation (56). The season opens up with a call to practice stillness above all else. Gate 52 is actually the fuel for temporary inaction in order to assess. That moment of quiet will be broken by the provoking energy of 39. Here to needle and prod us to new action or ways of being, 39 is the fuel for the new beginnings of 53. We’ll need to be careful of how we commit our energy in this time because the things we start will want to be seen through to their natural conclusion. As the new beginnings take shape, Gate 62 offers us the energy to look closely at the details and gives us the ability to bring patient, meticulous work to those things we’ve started and then the first few days of 56 offer stability through these committed actions.

How to track the Sun transit in Human Design.

Each of these Sun gates this season are in Collective circuitry—so this whole stretch of time will have a transpersonal undertone of sharing. This outward focus will also be accentuated even further by all of the outer planets also being in Collective or Individual gates. In fact, there is almost no Tribal energy in this season. This is a glimpse of what’s in store as we shift global cycles in 2027. The Tribal—support for those with close ties and the traditions of the past—gives way to a new energy for individual sovereignty and a collective awakening to the illusion of ourselves as separate from each other and nature.

From July 7th to the 16th transiting Mars in the Gate of Confusion (64) connects with the South Node position in the Gate of Realizing (47). These two activations bring the Channel of Abstraction online defining the Head and Ajna for everyone on the planet. This might find us all feeling pressure to make sense of the past—especially with the fiery energy of Mars and the South Node particularly concerned with our past direction—this definition could have everyone feeling a need to figure things out. It’s going to be a very good time to practice following your Strategy and Authority and remembering that our mind energy is here for sharing as an outer authority for others, not as an inner authority for us.

The transit that caught my eye was the recent shift of the North Node into the Gate of Openness (22) from June 14 to November 2. The North Node is our direction in this lifetime, where we are going and, in our natal chart, the thematic for the lessons we’re learning. The North Node is in Pisces at the moment, but in Human Design each zodiac sign contains 5(ish) gates, each with a different ‘flavor’ of that sign’s energy. Gate 22 carries the beautiful energy of grace that encourages selfless communication and fosters a new form of societal abundance and collective well-being.

This graciousness on offer these next few months overlaps with the initiatory energy of Gate of the Spirit of the Self (25) where Saturn and Neptune currently reside. In the I Ching this is the energy of our child-like Innocence carrying openness and pure intentions. This loving energy in dreamy, artful Neptune coming together with the gentle, guiding discipline of Saturn, feels like a huge opportunity for us all to revisit how we have been treating ourselves and others and may push us to return to more understanding, consideration and grace for ourselves and our fellow humans.

Though the world looks ever more chaotic and uncertain, I really see these next few months as the beginning of a major shift for us all. There are energies coming through that can help us turn our attention from the frenetic outside to find and cultivate quiet on the inside. This inner peace is what all the world’s traditions have taught for millennia. Outer peace only manifests through inner peace. This Summer Solstice and Cancer season feel like a portal to a more humane way of being for us all.
