We are brought up to focus on our deficits.

If it doesn’t happen in the home starting from a young age, it certainly happens in school.

Great at reading, but iffy on math? We’re gonna focus on improving your math skills. An amazing people person, but not so much with the book learnin’? Gotta put your nose to the grindstone and study, study, study.

I don’t know why we’ve decided to operate this way, but it conditions us to overlook our gifts, assets and abundances to instead focus on the place where we don’t meet the capricious and ever elusive ‘mark’.

Your experiment for the day: Notice those places where you feel you don’t have what it takes or downplay something your good at. Pause for a moment and really question why you believe that. Questioning what we think we know about ourselves is a practice that helps you be the YOUest you.
