Love Note 4.18.24 💚

Mostly we're brought up to believe that adults are in charge and they know what they are doing.

When we're kids we generally want to believe that because it's easier to feel safe. Thinking that the adults have a plan and the ability to enact it feels reassuring.

So as we grow up and start to see the disconnect between what adults should be doing and what they actually do, it's pretty confusing.

Yet the closer we get to adulthood ourselves, the more we get the message that we're all supposed to ACT like we are in charge of ourselves and our circumstances.

We pretend for a while and pretty soon we forget it's all make believe.

When you think about it, a large part of our culture is built around this fact that adults are mostly faking competency.

It keeps us disconnected from the basic truth that every next moment is unknown to us.

The unknown is not the bogeyman we've been led to believe. The unknown is the only place where possibility can dwell.

Discard the myth that you're supposed to know what you're doing. Life is an experiment, not a scripted performance.

Your experiment for the day: Pay attention to people who seem like they have it all together. Look a bit deeper. Is that really true or are they just pretending?
