Love Note 4.3.24 💚

There is a dearth of play in the world today.

Worse, all the research is clear that it's actively declining even among children.

This is a huge problem.

I would argue maybe the root of all our problems.

We have a story in our culture that we are here to work. We even look at learning as work.

It's why we sit 5 year olds at desks for 8 hours a day.

Yet all the neuroscience shows definitively that if we want to learn better and faster, we do it though play.

I'm not sure why we allow this clear disconnect to continue.

We may not have the ability to change our institutions, but we can change our own behavior.

Your experiment for the day: Make a play date with yourself today. Even it if it's just for 15 minutes. Pick something that you love to do, that's unstructured and deeply engaging. A truly revolutionary act would be to commit to playing every day.
