Good Thing Now: Airport Owls

43 years of helping Snowy Owls . . .

To love a place is not enough.
We must find ways to heal it.

—Robin Wall Kimmerer

Logan Airport in Boston is not at all a place you might expect to be a destination for Snowy Owls, but the mostly open acreage seems to be exactly that. Though birds and planes both share a love for flight, they don't share airspace very well.

Knowing how dangerous the planes are to these magnificent creatures, Norman Smith has spent nearly half a century rehousing these owls to places nearby that are more conducive to their longevity.

Norman’s dedication to the more than human world is a beautiful example of what it can look like to be aligned to our Human Design. It takes a deep relationship to our own inner knowing to be able to take on the care and nurturing of these wild creatures. Especially inside a culture that often doesn’t show any care to the needs and safety of other beings.

I don’t know Norman’s design, but I wonder if he has Gate 19 in a prominent place. This energy has a deep connection to nature and animals specifically.

The keynote sentence for this energy is, “That all things are interrelated is apparent and manifested through the action of approach.” Norman’s ability to see these owls as kin and the interconnection of our shared fates resonates throughout this sweet profile.

It could be that Gate 19 was the fuel for the deep knowing of our interrelation that moved him to dedicate so much of his life to supporting the needs of a group of birds whose habitat is rapidly dwindling.

Think you might have Gate 19 in your design? Find out here.

We are all intensely interrelated. As children we know this instinctively, but the world we’ve created detaches us from our not only the connection to others and to the wider world, but also from ourselves. The good news is that we DO have the ability to reconnect to this spark inside of us. I find that knowing a bit about your Human Design can be a powerful map back to your true self.

I hope this lovely peek into one human's profound and lengthy relationship with a specific aspect of the more than human world will inspire you to commune with some of the amazing beings in your little corner of the world.
